We are absolutely open to anyone who wants to shop for learning material. We find that our customer base is expanding into the parent market for a couple of reasons. First, parents, these days, are trying to find alternatives to stores such as Target and Toys R Us when purchasing for their children. Now, we absolutely do not call ourselves a toy store, but we do carry puzzles, crafts, and games that are not only fun, they promote learning too! Second, we are also an excellent resource for supplementary material for a child's day-to-day classwork. We carry workbooks, flashcards - even test prep material - that can keep a child sharp during breaks, and strengthen skills during the school year. Third, our craft department is loaded. We have everything from paints to wiggle eyes to paper-maiche. We like to say, "fill up a basket, and you'll fill up a year of rainy days!" Crafts are fun for everyone!
Do you accept Tax Exempt Numbers/Letters from non-profit organizations?
We do. The law techniquely states that a tax exempt letter must accompany the customer at
the time of purchase. We try to keep many Tax Exempt numbers on file, but there are hundreds.
It is not uncommon for them to expire. It is always a good idea to carry a current letter with
you and make sure it has been issued by the state of Illinois. You can always call us to see
if we have a current one on file.
Chicago Teacher, Inc. does not accept Federal Tax Exempt letters, such as a 36-number, as it does not apply to Illinois sales tax.
Does Chicago Teacher, Inc. carry High School material?
Our industry typically caters to the preschool to 8th grade teacher, so there is not as much to choose from if you do teach at the high school level. Three of our favorite high school vendors that we purchase from are Mark Twain, Millikin Publishing and McDonald Publishing. We also carry a line of motivational posters from TREND Enterprises, known as Argus posters. They have the fabulous sayings for upper grades and have been known to show up in the teachers' lounge or a counselor's office.
Can Chicago Teacher, Inc. special order material not in stock?
Yes, we are able to special order if the product comes from one of the many companies we already do business with. Depending on price and if the item is one we typically carry in the store, you may be required to pre-pay. We always try to fill these orders within 2-3 weeks of the order date. However it can sometimes take longer.
Does Chicago Teacher, Inc. laminate?
Chicago Teacher, Inc does. And even better, we do it while you wait! We actually have two machines that are constantly going, especially during Back To School. Our prices are probably the best in the city at $1.50 a linear foot for in-house material and $2.50 a linear foot for material brought in from somewhere else. We can accommodate posters up to 26 inches or as we see often a project with lots of little pieces! Unfortunately, we can not put any type of metal through our machine and that actually includes staples and glitter.
Do you sell gift certificates?
Yes, we do sell gift certificates for any amount you would like. They do not expire.
What is your return policy?
We will exchange most products or issue a credit if the customer so chooses within 30 days and with a receipt. However, it must be in its original packaging and in sellable condition. We do not, for any reason, return or exchange books. They are final sale.
